About this tour
Rancho Capomo is a working ranch, and the horses are the part of it that has been there longest. They know the trails — which is exactly what you want on your first ride. Each guest gets their own horse, matched to size and experience, and the wranglers ride with the group the whole way.
The route starts along the river below the ranch, where the horses walk the shallows and the shade is thick, then climbs into the Sierra Madre through jungle and open pasture with the valley opening up behind you. Higher up, the trail crosses hanging bridges strung over the ravine and drops down to a waterfall hidden in the trees, where you dismount and swim in the pool at its base.
The ride back brings you to the ranch for the second half of the day: a Mexican cooking class with the kitchen team, then lunch with open bar under the palapa. It is the calmest of the ranch tours and the one that works best for mixed groups — grandparents, kids and everyone in between usually end up on the same trail.

- Pickup in VallartaCollected at 9:00 AM from the agreed meeting point and driven about 45 minutes up into the Sierra Madre.
- Meet your horseHelmets are fitted and the wranglers match each guest with a horse, then run through reins, stops and posture.

What to bring
Long trousers or leggings are much more comfortable in the saddle than shorts, and closed shoes are required — no sandals or flip-flops. Bring a swimsuit and towel for the waterfall, sunscreen, insect repellent and a hat that will stay on under a helmet. A little cash for tips is appreciated by the wranglers. Leave loose jewellery and anything valuable at the hotel.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need riding experience?
No. The horses are used to first-time riders and the wranglers stay with the group the whole way, adjusting the pace to whoever is least experienced. Most guests have never ridden before.
Can children ride?
Yes, from about 6 years old, riding their own horse with a wrangler leading it or alongside a parent. Tell us the ages when you book so the ranch can assign the right horses.
Is there a weight limit?
Yes — around 250 lb (113 kg), set by the saddles and by what is fair to the horses. It is confirmed at booking.
How long are you actually on the horse?
Roughly two to three hours of riding, broken up by the waterfall stop. It is a walking-pace trail ride, not a gallop, so it is manageable even if you have never ridden.
Is the waterfall swim included?
Yes. You dismount at the falls and swimming in the pool is part of the tour — bring a swimsuit and a towel.
Is transport from my hotel included?
Round-trip transport from the agreed meeting points in Puerto Vallarta is included. If you are staying outside the usual zones, tell us where and we will confirm the closest pickup.
What happens if it rains?
Light rain is fine and the trail is at its greenest in the wet season. Only storms cause a hold or reschedule, and we let you know as early as we can on the day.
