🍽️ What is it?
A traditional drink of Filipino origin (it arrived with the Manila Galleon trade route) made from the fermented sap of the coconut palm, served cold with chopped apple, walnuts, and sometimes celery.
✨ Why it's amazing
Sweet, light, with a fermented note reminiscent of young coconut but more complex. Drunk ice-cold, perfect for the Malecón heat, and the nuts add crunch. Made fresh daily — if it sits, it turns sour.
📍 Where to find it
- The Malecón — vendors walk south to north dressed in white, carrying a signature clay jar. Between Los Muertos Pier and the Caballito statue. 30-50 pesos per cup.
- Los Muertos Beach — vendors walk along the sand too.
- Tip: tastes best in the morning, when freshest.
